As an up-and-coming junior player, Federer used the Wilson Pro Staff 6.0 Original 85 (mid-production, Chinese version). Federer honed and fine-tuned his skills with this 85 square-inch frame and ended 1998 ranked as the junior World Number One.

After turning pro, Federer continued to use this version of the Pro Staff and posted some impressive victories. Most notably, in 2001, Federer used this frame to dethrone the great Pete Sampras in the fourth round at Wimbledon.
